I use sketchbooks to document my thoughts, ideas, scribbles, drawings and paintings, and I refer to these often during the creative process. They remind me of moments in my life that I would otherwise forget.
They often inform my final works and are invaluable in developing my ideas. Sketchbooks are where my artistic visions begin; I suppose they are a visual record of my creative life.
The most spontaneous work can start in my sketchbooks, perhaps because in sketching there is no pressure or confinement, no time for doubt or fear.
